Here's a new painting fresh off my easel! A very active sky with an almost monotone palette, I hoped to combine a busy sky with a feeling of serenity in the same piece.

 Here's a new little painting with a lot of drama. Funny, it didn't start out that way, but then I let my spirit take me there.

Just off my easel, this painting has been very patient waiting for me to complete the final touches. I've been dealing with two sprained knees that made it impossible to both paint and elevate my legs adequately at the same time. I had my "breakthrough" this week when the doctor injected corticosteroid in the really bad knee. Today I was able to work in the studio on this one. So the title fits both my personal status at the time of finishing the painting as well as the yellow sun blazed sky breaking through between the blue.

Well, the juror did not select them for the show, but they were both purchased by a very special couple in Massachusetts who follow me on Facebook! “When one door closes, another door opens; but we so often look so long and regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” ― Alexander Graham Bell. Well I saw the one that opened! Thank you and you know who you are!

It started with me wanting to paint some nocturnes. Then I combined it with wanting to enter a juried competition, "Size Matters," at the Grosse Pointe Art Center. So here's my two new blue debut. This exhibit ". . . address the theme of size through physical and/or conceptual explorations of dimensions and scale." So in "Nightfall" I've condensed an enormous sky onto a miniature format; as well as in "Lake Nocturne" where I painted a vast deep body of water swelling up the 6 x 6 inch panel. We'll see what the juror thinks. The show should prove to be very interesting.

Here's a new painting I just finished. It's reflective of my trip last year to New Mexico. I was mesmerized by the vast plains and mesas and the rabbitbrush, cacti, and pinyon-juniper dotting the landscape. So different from what I'm used to. Definitely a place I will return to again and again.

Painting Wins Award

I'm delighted to announce that my oil painting, Standing Watch, was selected for the Jocelyn Dombrowski Award at the 74th Annual Members Show at the Grosse Pointe Art Center.
